Message from the President, CBR Global Network

The right time and place

Once in a while things come together at just the right time and in just the right place.

There is no better place to take forward our fight to eliminate poverty and exclusion of people with disabilities than at the second World Congress of the CBR Global Network in Malaysia, September 2016. And this Congress could not have come at a better time.

Once in a while things come together at just the right time and in just the right place.

There are three main reasons for this:

Never in the post-industrial times has disability had so much international attention and political will. But our concern is practice and its impact on the daily lives of millions of people living with disabilities especially in low income countries. So we have to ask: ‘What has all this attention and activity done for us?’

The second CBR Global Network Congress is just the place to consider this.

It’s unique because there will not be any experts telling us what’s right and wrong. It’s a gathering of over 600 dedicated and experienced practitioners from all over the world coming together to exchange ideas, share innovation and stimulate creativity – in a collegiate and collaborative environment, where the only expertise is the voices of the dispossessed.

‘No talking about us, without all of us talking!

So the Congress is the time and place to take stock of what we’ve learnt over the last few years and to consider how best to move forward to a more inclusive world where we can all enjoy sufficiency and respect.

Together we will pose and answer the question: ‘What next for CBR?’

On behalf of the CBR Global network, I warmly invite each one of you to come and share your personal and professional knowledge with colleagues from around the world and contribute to an inclusive future.
